First application step of the MoDiSeM initiative KArKas successful

DLR receives the positive news from the project management agency that the project outline "KArKas - Competence Center for Assistance Robotics in Disaster Control" has been approved for the second step of the application for funding in the BMBF program "Robots for Assistance Functions: Interaction in Practice" was selected. This means that a major hurdle on the way to such a centre has been overcome.

A brief review: Within the network, the goal of participating in the above-mentioned BMBF call with ideas, ambitions, available resources and concretely foreseeable cooperative relationships emerged in February 2020. While a lot of work was done in the home office due to the corona pandemic, the project outline was developed. Although meetings (with physical presence) were avoided, communication and important coordination processes worked excellently. On 20/03/27 the MoDiSeM partner DLR (Berlin-Adlershof site) uploaded the final version of the sketch a few days before the deadline.

The process of evaluating the sketches received and selecting the "winners" in the first step was carried out extremely quickly at the project management agency VDI/VDE Innovation und Technik GmbH.

Today's starting signal for the next steps on the way to the desired competence centre has great potential for a particularly far-reaching, sustainable effect within the framework of MoDiSeM: The second stage of the application is followed by a concept phase if approved. Following a renewed selection for subsequent phases, then within three years the competence centre would be established with BMBF funding. One of the three resulting centres can finally be funded for another two years.
